New Delhi, Aug 27: Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who went to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) after she felt some uneasiness last night, left the hospital at 1.30am after doctors found no reason to keep her there.

Sonia, who had a viral fever during the weekend, had participated in the Lok Sabha debate on the food bill yesterday but left Parliament at 8.15pm after feeling “some degree of uneasiness”.

A team of doctors from different specialities, supervised by AIIMS director R.C. Deka, examined Sonia and conducted certain tests, an institute spokesperson said in a statement released this morning.

“All the tests were found normal, and Mrs Gandhi did not require any definitive treatment,” the spokesperson said. “She was happy on the outcome of the test reports and the care provided by the doctors, nurses, and staff.”

PTI quoted Deka as saying: “She had cough... she had headache. She took medicines after which she felt uneasiness in Parliament, that is why she was here. We put (her through) all the tests required… and we found her normal, and she has left in her own car talking to all the doctors, and thanking all of us.”

While in the hospital, Sonia seemed to feel much better and asked the doctors whether she could go home, according to an authoritative source who was not part of the medical team that examined her.

“They (members of the team) felt they had no reason at all to hold her back in the hospital,” the source said.

The team members who examined Sonia or assisted in conducting tests included cardiologists V.K. Bahl and Nitish Naik, neurologist M.V. Padma, neuro-radiologist N.K. Misra, cardiac surgeon Balram Airan, gastroenterologist Pramod Garg, nuclear magnetic resonance specialist N.R. Jagannathan and cardiac and interventional radiologist Priya Jagia.
