Feb. 17: Samar Sen, former member of the Indian Civil Service, passed away in London on February 16 at the age of 88.
While a serving officer in Bengal, Sen was inducted into the Indian Political Service, the forerunner of the ICS. He was sent as secretary to the Indian delegation to the founding session of the UN.
He served two terms as India’s permanent representative in the UN. He served as India’s high commissioner in Dacca, where, in 1975, he survived an attempt on his life by fundamentalists.
