Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said the Narendra Modi government was attacking the poor and the Dalits as it was committed to serving the interest of merely 10-15 industrialists in the country.

Speaking on the occasion of Valmiki Jayanti, Rahul said: “The poor and Dalits are under attack. The entire country knows it. The government was busy serving the interests of 10-15 industrialists while crores of others were being attacked, silenced. But the Congress party will fight this attack. We will stop this. They will break the society, we will unite and harmonise the society.”

The Congress leader added: “Valmiki showed the path of love and brotherhood. His message is similar to what the Constitution of India says. The message of equality and brotherhood. And that’s why the Constitution is being attacked today. Valmiki said what India’s true culture is. The Congress follows that path. I want to tell my Dalit brothers there is no need to panic. We will resist this attack together.”

Shah silence on J&K

The Congress on Wednesday attacked home minister Amit Shah for his silence on the alarming situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

Party spokesperson Gourav Vallabh said: “We don’t know what the home minister invests his time in. Twenty-five people have been killed in Kashmir, outsiders are being targeted and a massive exodus has begun, but the home minister has not spoken a word. He had said Kashmir would become normal while removing Article 370 but the situation has worsened. Unemployment in J&K is maximum today.”

Vallabh demanded full restoration of statehood and immediate election in the Union Territory. He also demanded job opportunities and compensation for those who had to flee Kashmir because of targeted killings.
