Sikander Behl is a young and recognized political and social activist from the city of Delhi. He is the General Secretary at Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress and District Incharge - New Delhi.
We sat down with him for a brief interview and discussed his thoughts on the various issues that India is currently dealing with.
What according to you is the most important issue that needs urgent looking into?
Well, there are many. You can't really rate problems because they're all equally important. Women safety, unemployment, the farmer crisis and inflation are all issues that need an efficient solution oriented approach. Sadly, the opposition parties are not really living up to the mark and have evidently failed in the speedy handling of these issues.
What are your thoughts on the farmer crisis now that the PM has made an apology?
First, the apology came extremely late. Lots of lives were lost and protesting against a Government that didn't seem to listen was obvious mentally challenging for our farmers. Apologies don't do much. What is the BJP Government going to do about the lives lost? Will the families be given a compensation? If yes, then when? When will a law on MSP be made? An apology without answers to these questions is of no use.
What do you think of AAP's criticism several months ago of the Punjab Government's decision of debt waiver for farm labourers and landless farmers?
I don't understand why a good move that is in favour of the agricultural community has to be criticised. The Punjab Government wants to help the farmers and give them relief. The Aam Aadmi Party, on the other hand, has not given any support to them.
Is the situation of unemployment worsening?
The statistics show that it is. The pandemic has added to the problem. On one hand, people are rendered unemployed and on the other, the BJP Government does nothing to solve the issue of price hikes and continues to deceive the country.
