Moments from the Nobel Peace Prize award ceremony in Oslo’s ornate city hall on the anniversary of Swedish industrialist Alfred Nobel’s death. Malala Yousafzai and Kailash Satyarthi shared the $1.1 million prize money.

Malala’s story
I tell my story, not because it is unique, but because it is not. It is the story of many girls

Satyarthi’s memory
I’ve lost two of my colleagues. Carrying the dead body of a colleague who is fighting for the protection of children is something I’ll never forget, even as I sit here to receive the Nobel Peace Prize

Sound and sip of India
Sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan and his sons Amaan and Ayaan (in file picture) performed at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert. They spread the message of peace, harmony and non-violence with a special “Raga For Peace” conceived for the occasion. Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan reprised his uncle Nusrat Fateh Ali’s famous Sufi composition Allahu Allahu with his troupe.
The Nobel Museum Tea Blend, created in honour of Alfred Nobel, formed a part of the Nobel Banquet. The blend is made of Assam and Chinese Keemun tea.
“The blend is based on a Chinese Keemun tea produced in Qimen country situated in Anhui Province. Blended with Assam tea, this tea attains a gorgeous colour and lovely scent,” the Nobel Museum said. “The tea is flavoured with the finest bergamot from Italy, complemented with the sweetness of Swedish raspberries and the fresh taste of orange. A true cosmopolitan blend.”

Redemption
The award could also help the Norwegian Nobel Committee repair its reputation, damaged by controversial awards in recent years to the European Union and President Barack Obama.
The chairman of the Nobel Committee, Thorbjorn Jagland, said in his speech: “A young girl and a somewhat older
man, one from Pakistan and one from India, one Muslim, the other Hindu; both symbols of what the world needs: more unity. Fraternity between the nations.”

Work in progress
Malala said: “I am pretty certain that I am also the first recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize who still fights with her younger brothers. I want there to be peace everywhere, but my brothers and I are still working on that.”
