Dimapur, Aug. 19 :
The National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) today said it was not in favour of elections in Nagaland.
Convenor of the outfit?s cease-fire monitoring cell Phungthing Shimrang said, ?Elections will not solve the Naga political problem.?
When asked whether his outfit would boycott the ensuing Lok Sabha polls in the state, Shimrang said, ?It is up to the people to
understand.?
NSCN(I-M) secretary for information and publicity N.G. Hungshi had earlier said his outfit
appreciated the Naga Hoho?s
decision not to participate in the forthcoming elections and stand by its decision of ?solution, not election.?
Hungshi criticised the use of the Armed Forces (Special) Powers Act, the Disturbed Areas Act and the National Security Act, which he described as ?draconian,?? in the state.
Shimrang also denied the NSCN (Khaplang) allegation that the NSCN (Isak-Muivah)?s armed wing chief ?Maj. Gen.? V. S. Atem had taken ?crores of rupees? from chief minister S.C. Jamir.
?If we had taken money from the state government, how could we be still fighting for our rights and be so uncompromising in our stand? We cannot be bought so easily,? he said.
Regarding the recent clashes with the Naga National Council (NNC) cadres in Cozuba sub-division in Phek district, Shimrang said, ?We are going to the people and we cannot move without arms.?
When asked about the recent defection of the chairman of the Ao region, Arep Jamir, to the NSCN(Khaplang), Shimrang said his outfit was aware that Jamir was conspiring to defect for
some time.
BJP on the move: The state unit of the BJP today said a ?congenial political climate has already been created for a peaceful solution to the Naga problem strong and only a stable leader like Vajpayee could solve such a major issue?.
State unit spokesman Johnny G. Rengma, in a release, said the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance manifesto has already promised to safeguard the socio-political and economic interests of the tribal people.
Rengma said by sending an Independent candidate to the Lok Sabha would not serve the purpose of highlighting the grievances of the Nagas. Whereas, the BJP candidate could help ?redress our problems.?
He further criticised the Congress for making tall promises and alleged that the party had been siphoning off public money.
