Kochi, Jan. 29 (PTI): A drunk passenger misbehaved with the crew on board an Oman Airways flight that landed here this morning.

Mohanan, 47, a businessman from Thrissur district, was handed over to the CISF after the plane landed at the airport and the crew registered a complaint against him. While being taken to a police station, Mohanan punched a policeman on the nose.

Schools shut

New Delhi (PTI): The Delhi government has ordered closure of primary sections in all schools, including private institutions, till February 2 because of severe cold in the capital. Following snowfall in the hilly region, the temperature in the capital has plummeted, with the minimum dropping to 2.3°C on Monday.

Actor dead

Thiruvananthapuram (PTI): Veteran Malayali actor Bharat Gopi, whose performance in Adoor Gopalakrishnan’s film Kodiyettam won him the national award, died in a hospital on Tuesday. Gopi, 71, is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. He was hospitalised last week after a heart attack while shooting in Alappuzha district.

Parents held

Kochi (PTI): The parents of a newborn girl have been arrested for killing the infant immediately after her birth. The baby was strangulated and dumped on the roadside, police said. The parents of six children confessed that poverty had forced them to take the step.

Kollam (PTI): Veteran RSP leader Baby John, who earned the nickname “Kerala Kissinger” for skilfully handling political problems in the state, died here early on Tuesday. John, 88, had been confined to his home for the last 10 years.

Kandahar

Patiala (PTI): A special court has deferred to February 5 its judgment against three persons arrested on conspiracy and other related charges in connection with the hijack of an Indian Airlines plane to Kandahar nearly eight years ago.
