Jammu, Aug. 28 (PTI): A woman was injured when the battery of her mobile phone “exploded” while she was talking on her phone, officials said today.
Kareena Bali, a resident of Kathua district, received injuries on her face and hands. A mobile phone company had declared the same series of battery unfit.
Bangalore (PTI): A 10-year-old girl was allegedly thrashed on Tuesday by her teacher because she had asked for more rice during the mid-day meal. Tulasi, an orphan, is a Class IV student in Hassan district. Earlier, three teachers of a private school were held on charges of handing out corporal punishment to an 11-year-old girl.
Nagpur (PTI): A bomb hoax delayed the Mumbai-bound Gitanjali Express by about five hours on Tuesday. The train was stopped near Bhandara Road station following an anonymous call, but resumed its journey after a search did not yield any explosives.
Jalandhar (PTI): The Shiromani Akali Dal has taken up the matter of Sikhs being required to take off their turbans for screening in US airports with the Prime Minister. “Since the Prime Minister himself is a Sikh, he should lodge a strong protest against the new screening laws,” the party’s working president, Sukhbir Badal, has said.
New Delhi (PTI): Internet giant Google has said it has removed a fake profile of Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayavati from Orkut, its social networking site. State home secretary Javed Ahmed had said on Monday the government would take strict action against those who had posted the fake profile.
Jabalpur (PTI): A two-year-old boy was killed after a portion of a hut collapsed on him at Hanumantal, police said. Ameen’s parents and sister had gone out to work on Monday when the incident took place, the police said.
