Mau, May 9 (PTI): An FIR has been lodged against 14 people for their alleged involvement in torching a Dalit’s house to grab his land following a directive from the National Commission for SCs & STs, Uttar Pradesh police said.

g those named in the FIR are a policeman and three three revenue department officials. The victim had lodged a complaint with the commission following which its director visited the village and directed police to lodge the FIR.

Copter victim

Guwahati: Rishi Bothra, who was injured in the Pawan Hans chopper crash at Tawang on April 19, succumbed to his wounds on May 8 taking the toll to 18. He was undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital in New Delhi. His wife Nidhi had died in the crash.

Pistol in bag

New Delhi (PTI): A woman was arrested from Indira Gandhi International Airport for allegedly carrying a country-made pistol, police said on Monday. The fire-arm was detected in the woman’s check-in baggage during screening. Vandana Kaushal was produced in court, which granted her bail for a surety of Rs 10,000.

Crash kills 11

Koppala (PTI): Eleven labourers, including eight women, were killed and nine others injured when a truck in which they were travelling collided with a lorry, Karnataka police said on Monday. The lorry driver is absconding following the incident.

Militant SIM

Jammu (PTI): Six persons, including two brothers, have been arrested for allegedly providing SIM cards to militants in Poonch district, police said on Monday. Acting on a specific input, a police team raided several places and arrested the six.

Cop shoots

Hyderabad (PTI): A constable allegedly shot at a woman colleague with his service revolver before shooting himself in the Kukatpally police station area on Monday, police said. Preliminary investigations revealed the incident was a fall-out of the woman’s refusal to marry the constable. The condition of both is stated to be serious.
