Washington, May 3 (PTI): The US had stopped India from conducting a nuclear test in 1995 but it had no clue when the Pokhran tests were carried out three years later, according to former CIA director George Tenet.
The timing of India’s 1998 nuclear tests had caught Washington unawares, Tenet says in his just-published book, At the Center of the Storm: My Years at the CIA.
Panaji (PTI): A British couple who were asked to leave the country after their visa expired moved the Goa bench of Bombay High Court. They were granted an interim stay on the state government order. The couple were allegedly not given a hearing when they applied for an extension of their visa, which had expired on August 30, 2006.
Baghdad (AFP): Two Indians working for the US government were killed in a rocket attack on Baghdad’s heavily fortified green zone on Wednesday, the embassy has said. A Filipino and a Nepalese, also employed by the US government, died in the attack.
New Delhi (PTI): Information and broadcasting minister Priya Ranjan Das Munshi has announced equal representation for women in news anchoring in the Prasar Bharati panel. “From August 15, we will be having 50 per cent women in news anchoring and reading in Doordarshan and radio,” he said.
