New Delhi, Sept. 20 (PTI): Narendra Mohan, BJP MP and chief editor of Dainik Jagran, died at the Apollo hospital here today following a multi-organ failure.

A Rajya Sabha member from Uttar Pradesh, he is survived by wife, two sons and a daughter.

Mohan, 68, was shifted to the Apollo from the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences “in a critical condition with fungal septicemic shock and multi-organ dysfunction”. He died at 11.45 pm, Apollo sources said.

Prime Minister A.B. Vajpayee, deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani, BJP president M. Venkaiah Naidu and general secretary Arun Jaitley, Congress leader Motilal Vora and minister of state Vijay Goel visited his residence and paid their tributes.

Vajpayee said Mohan had a defining influence in the growth of Hindi journalism and worked tirelessly to uphold the lofty ideals of objective, issue-based and patriotic journalism. Mohan’s thinking and work displayed a rare sensitivity and deep understanding of the complex aspects of his time in general and his profession in particular, he said.

A former chairman of the Press Trust of India, Mohan had campaigned for allowing Foreign Direct Investment in the print media. He will be cremated in hometown Kanpur tomorrow.

Mohan was a prominent voice in developing a vibrant and relevant media policy in the country, Vajpayee said, adding that as Member of Parliament, he showed a fearless and modern approach on various issues.

Parliamentary affairs minister Pramod Mahajan said Mohan’s untimely death was a big loss not only to the nation but a personal loss to all those who were associated with him.
