New Delhi, Nov. 1 (PTI): The CBI today filed its first FIR in the leave travel concession scam and booked JD(U) Rajya Sabha MP Anil Kumar Sahani for allegedly claiming around Rs 9.5 lakh from the government by presenting fake air tickets and boarding passes.
Air India customer service agent Rubaina Akhtar and Lajpat Nagar-based travel operator Air Cruise Travels Private Limited have also been named in the FIR, CBI sources said.
The CBI has alleged that Sahani purchased seven business class return e-tickets to Port Blair from Air India, each costing nearly Rs 1.34 lakh, in December 2012 in connivance with the tour operator and the Air India employee. He then used the online service to get the boarding passes.
However, just before the boarding time, the tickets were cancelled using the sign-in code of Akhtar and money was refunded with little deduction. Later, the MP used these e-tickets and boarding passes to claim the travel expenses.
Sources said the CBI today went to the Rajya Sabha secretariat and collected relevant records. They clarified this was not a search operation. CBI teams also swooped at Sahani’s office in the capital and his residential premises in Bihar, besides the Air India office and the office of the tour operator.
Attempts to seek Sahani’s reaction failed.
The incident had come to light after a man was arrested at Calcutta airport in March with 600 blank Air India boarding passes.
