Smriti Irani (in file picture) let slip on Saturday that she grudges Rahul Gandhi the tag of youth leader. Without naming the Congress vice-president, she said: "There is a leader who still claims to be a youth leader but he is close to 50 years of age." Then she went on to say how Rahul had been an MP for 10 years with "his mother's blessings" but had done nothing for his constituency Amethi.
Rahul, 45, has been reaching out to students through visits on campuses and often likes to say: "We must listen to the voice of the youth."
The Union HRD minister, on the other hand, has come under fire for describing Rohith Vemula as a "child". She had used the word in Parliament during a debate on the suicide of the Dalit PhD student of University of Hyderabad, who had hanged himself after he was suspended on a prod from Smriti's ministry.
Smriti's car met with an accident on the Yamuna Expressway late on Saturday night. "For all enquiring re my accident- I'm fine. Thank you for the concern and wishes," she tweeted.
