Goa law on public drinking
• PANAJI: Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar said a law would be enacted to make drinking in public places a punishable offence. He said the move would ensure that Goa became free of the "litter" of bottles. "May be give and take 15 days, end of this month or February, a new law will come into action which will make drinking alcohol in public a cognisable offence," he said at the inauguration of the a waste management facility in Panaji on Thursday. "Don't you have a home to drink? Or hotel to drink? And even if you drink, at least take back the bottles," he said. PTI

• NEW DELHI: An east Delhi based businessman has alleged he received an extortion call demanding Rs 2 crore, police said on Friday. A complaint has been filed at the Preet Vihar police station and the matter is being probed. The complainant told police he received an extortion call on January 2. PTI
Family tragedy
• VISAKHAPATNAM: A couple facing financial problems poisoned their two children and committed suicide on Thursday evening, police said. The incident took place in Mustafa Colony under Arilova police station limits. The deceased were identified as D. Rajesh Reddy, an electrician, his wife Sowmya, and their children, D. Vishnuteja, 9, and D. Jahnavi, 5. PTI
Tea stall deaths
• MUZAFFARNAGAR: Two persons were killed after a truck collided with a tea stall here, police said on Friday. The accident occurred at a bus stand in Parasol village. Both the deceased were inside the tea stall at the time of the accident. PTI

Stent price complaints
• NEW DELHI: Drug pricing regulator NPPA has received 40 complaints of overpricing of coronary stents by hospitals, Parliament was informed on Friday. Minister of state for chemicals and fertilisers Mansukh L. Mandaviya said the government was effectively monitoring the implementation of the ceiling prices fixed for coronary stents. Last year, stent prices were capped at Rs 7,260 for bare metal variety and Rs 29,600 for drug-eluting ones. PTI
Coach molest slur
• BAREILLY: A coach has been booked allegedly attempting to rape two minor athletes. Coach Sahibe Alam, who is absconding, has been accused of molesting one of the athletes and attempting to rape her during a tournament in Meeraganj. The other athlete said that during the monsoon marathon held in Nainital last month, Alam showed porn films and tried to rape her. PTI
Cyber crime count
• NEW DELHI: Cyber crimes cases registered in the country have grown in the past three years, the government told the Rajya Sabha on Friday. The number rose from 9,622 and 11,592 to 12,317 during 2014, 2015 and 2016, respectively, the government said on Friday.PTI
Naidu toilet vow
• AMRAVATI: Andhra Pradesh chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has set March 31 as the deadline for constructing toilets at every home in the state and threatened to sit on a dharna and hunger strike if the target was not achieved. Students killed
• INDORE: Five students of the Delhi Public School here were killed when their bus collided with a truck on Friday afternoon, police said. The bus driver also died. The accident occurred because of steering wheel failure, the police added. PTI

• MUMBAI: Two Nigerians have been arrested for alleged drug peddling, and heroin worth Rs 8 crore has been seized from them, police said on Friday. The accused was involved in supplying drugs in Delhi, Haryana and Punjab. PTI

• MUMBAI: Bombay High Court has permitted the families of 11 victims of a July 2017 building collapse in Ghatkopar to intervene in the bail hearing of Shiv Sena leader and the prime accused in the case, Sunil Shitap. The collapse last year killed 17 people. PTI
