Gaitonde painting 'stolen'

A 1960 painting by artist Vasudeo Gaitonde, estimated to cost around Rs 50 crore, may have been stolen from Nirlon House in Worli, police have been told.

Mumbai, Nov. 7 (PTI): A 1960 painting by artist Vasudeo Gaitonde, estimated to cost around Rs 50 crore, may have been stolen from Nirlon House in Worli, police have been told.

Complainant Janak Mathuradas, a Nirlon Ltd shareholder and a businessman, says he spotted a similar painting at an exhibition in New York, the police said.

Gaitonde's painting used to be housed in the boardroom of Nirlon House.

The complaint was lodged at Mumbai's Worli police station yesterday, deputy commissioner of police Ashok Dudhe said. He said the police were investigating the matter.
