Former chief minister and BJP parliamentary board member B.S. Yediyurappa appeared before investigators on Monday in relation to an alleged child molestation case, adhering to Karnataka High Court’s order shielding him from coercive action by the CID.

In March, Yediyurappa was booked under IPC Section 354 (a) for sexual harassment and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (Pocso).

The details of Monday’s questioning at the CID office remain undisclosed. The 81-year-old BJP leader has vehemently denied the accusations, asserting that those orchestrating the allegations will face consequences.

Earlier, the high court had barred the CID from taking any coercive steps following Yediyurappa’s plea for interim bail. This decision followed a non-bailable warrant issued by a Pocso court, paving the way for his arrest in the case.

The incident leading to the case occurred on January 2, when a mother and her minor daughter visited Yediyurappa at his residence seeking assistance with a complaint against a family acquaintance accused of molesting the child.

According to the mother’s complaint, Yediyurappa allegedly took the minor to a room, locked it and committed the act. She, however, waited until March 14 to register an FIR against the BJP leader, who had immediately denied the allegations.

After the survivor’s mother passed away in May, her elder brother moved the high court to ensure a thorough investigation, including retrieval of digital evidence from Yediyurappa’s home security cameras.
