New Delhi, July 11 (PTI): Delhi University is not a "haven for riff-raff" and cannot be the "last refuge for scoundrels", an anguished Delhi High Court said today.

It was referring to alleged attacks on the law faculty dean and some professors a few months ago by a group of law students who had been prevented from taking their semester exam on the ground of poor attendance.

"Unruly behaviour with the dean and teaching faculty is completely unacceptable," the bench of Justices Siddharth Mridul and Najmi Waziri said.

"There's no place for all of this on the campus.... The university is not a haven for all kinds of riff-raff," the bench added.

The court rapped the police for their delay in registering an FIR and their wait for a fact-finding report by the law faculty.
