The victim’s mother worked as a domestic help-cum-cook at Prasad’s residence. However, she was feeling unwell on the fateful day and sent her daughter in her place to do the chores.

Prasad was at his residence. He held the minor girl captive and raped her. He also threatened her of dire consequences if she revealed it to anybody.

However, the battered and bruised girl returned home and told her mother about the incident. Both of them later complained to the Mirganj station house officer (SHO) and Gopalganj superintendent of police (SP). An FIR was registered under the Pocso (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act on the basis of the statement of the girl.

Prasad was interrogated and arrested soon after the FIR was registered. He was later produced before a magistrate and sent to judicial custody.

“This is a very shameful incident for the police. Our priority will be to ensure that the accused is punished and justice is provided to the victim. The accused was transferred to the Mirganj police station around six months ago,” Gopalganj SP Anand Kumar told reporters.

The victim was medically examined and admitted to the district hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, further investigation of the case has been entrusted to deputy superintendent of police (district headquarters) Jyoti Kumari. The place of occurrence was sealed and a forensic team of the police was called to gather evidence.
