Jharkhand Congress, buoyed by the success in the recent state Assembly polls, is gearing up for the launch of a large-scale 60-day Samvidhan Rakshak (Constitution Protector) campaign from Tuesday.

The national-level campaign will be launched simultaneously across the country on November 26 (on Constitution Day to mark the adoption of the Constitution).

“The party workers are excited after the recent election result. We were considered the weak link in the ruling coalition (JMM-Congress-RJD-CPI-ML) by pollsters but we came up with a stellar performance winning 16 seats which was the same as that of 2019. The activists at the grassroots level would like to show their enthusiasm during the 60-day campaign,” said the chairman of the media committee of Jharkhand Congress, Satish P. Munjini.

State Congress president Kamlesh Mahato said that during the campaign in Jharkhand meetings, discussions and nukkad sabhas will be held at district, block, panchayat and village levels.

“The campaign would see rallies, meetings, discussions, debates and nukkad sabhas at district, block, panchayat and village levels. We will also form a village-level constitution protection committee to ensure that this campaign reaches the remotest part of the state and people are made aware of the planning of BJP-RSS to destroy the constitution,” said Kamlesh Mahato.

The senior Congress leader said that this campaign is not only for Congress workers.

“We will seek participation of all those who revere Dr B.R. Ambedkar who stood up for protecting the Constitution, its values and democratic principles irrespective of party affiliations,” added Mahato.

Congress leaders during the campaign will inform the masses about the importance of a caste census.

“Rahulji has been stressing the principle of ‘Jiski jitni sankhya bhaari, uski utni hissedari’ and a caste census will give us the data on this. There will also be discussion on the rights of marginalised communities and topics like water, forests, land and other resources,” said Congress spokesperson Rakesh Sinha.
