Guwahati, March 28 :     Ulfa central publicity secretary Mithinga Daimary has denied his outfit?s involvement in the attacks on the siblings of two Assam ministers last week, contradicting the claims made by the Ulfa?s Darrang and Nalbari units. Daimary told The Telegraph over phone today that the Ulfa was in no way involved in the killing of agriculture minister Chandramohan Patowary?s brother Pramode Patowary and the attack on health minister Kamala Kalita?s brother Satish Kalita. ?No one except me is authorised to make such statements,? he said, but hastened to add that the outfit?s commander-in-chief Paresh Baruah and deputy commander-in-chief Raju Baruah could do so. ?Since the statement has not come from either of these two persons in this case, it cannot be accepted as the organisation?s stand,? Daimary said, adding that investigations were on to find out who exactly issued the statement. The two district units of the outfit had claimed responsibility for the attacks and clarified that these were in no way connected with the deadline set by their commander-in-chief for the state government to stop ?secret killings.? The deadline expired on Thursday. The two Ulfa units also said the attacks were approved by two of their senior leaders, Munna Mishra and Lohit Deuri, but did not have the prior sanction of the outfit?s central committee. Pramode Patowary was gunned down at Rupnagar here on Friday when he was returning home from his pharmacy at Ganeshguri. Satish Kalita was critically injured when unidentified gunmen attacked him at his Chaygaon residence the previous night. Police initially said Bodo militants could be involved in the Chaygaon incident as Kalita had earlier been abducted by them. However, after Patowary?s killing, the finger of suspicion pointed at the Ulfa.
