Hyderabad, May 17: Actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi yesterday announced that he would return to his "first love" and start shooting for his 150th film in August, finally ending a year-long ambiguity over his future.
The former central minister, who merged his Praja Rajyam Party with the Congress in 2011, has been in the wilderness ever since the national party was routed in residual Andhra Pradesh in the 2014 summer elections.
While most of his followers, from the dominant Kapu community, deserted the Congress, the actor has been virtually isolated from all political parties and groups.
Now, after pondering over his future for a year, Chiranjeevi has decided to act in the Telugu movie produced by his son Ram Charan and directed by Puri Jagannadh, ending a nearly decade-long break from films.
"Films are my first and foremost love," the 1955-born actor said while announcing the date for the shoot - his birthday, August 22 - at an event in Kadapa yesterday. "It is films that brought me closer to people and understand their problems."
Ram Charan took to his official Facebook page to announce that Jagannadh would direct the film, "tentatively dubbed as Auto Johnny".
In a tweet, Jagannadh said the story "is completely and originally conceived by me".
