New Delhi, July 17 :
Stepping up efforts to stitch together an alternative government in Haryana, Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) chief Om Prakash Chautala today sought the President?s intervention for the dismissal of the ?minority? Bansi Lal government.
?Bansi Lal has lost the confidence of the House following withdrawal of support by the Congress. I have requested the President to direct Governor Mahavir Prasad to dismiss the government immediately,? Chautala said after submitting a memorandum to President K.R. Narayanan.
?The Congress? move has plunged the state into a constitutional crisis and the minority government continues to indulge in gross looting of the state exchequer,? the INLD chief said.
Sources said Chautala is working overtime to instal a government in the state sans his bete noire Bansi Lal. Efforts are on to split the 35-member HVP. The splinter group, together with the 22-member INLD and a few Independent MLAs, will be sufficient to bag majority in the 90-member House, an INLD source said. He added his party would support any configuration minus Bansi Lal and the Congress.
An INLD leader said there was no need for another floor test. ?Only 20 days ago, he proved his majority and now the Congress has withdrawn support and it is clear Bansi Lal has lost majority,? he added.
On dissident HVP MLA Rao Narbir Singh?s demand that the chief minister of the alternative dispensation be from the splinter group, Chautala said: ?I have always said I will favour anybody except Bansi Lal as chief minister.?
Asked if the BJP would support such a government, he replied: ?You better ask BJP.?
