New Delhi, Dec. 29: The Centre has termed yesterday's low-intensity Bangalore blast that killed a woman as a 'terror' attack and hinted the National Investigation Agency (NIA) might be asked to take over the probe.

'It was definitely a terror attack,' junior home minister Kiren Rijiju said today after a meeting with senior minister Rajnath Singh and top officials. But both expressed inability at this stage to name the possible perpetrators, saying it was 'too early'.

A central team of NIA and Intelligence Bureau investigators was sent to Bangalore today to assist the local police. Asked about the possibility of handing over the probe to the NIA, which investigates terror cases, Rajnath said a decision would be taken after collecting more evidence. 'If necessary, we will hand over the investigation to the NIA.'

Bhavani, the Tamil Nadu woman who died in the Bangalore blast, was a mother of two visiting her brother-in-law on Christmas vacation. Karthik, her relative who was injured and is now reported stable in hospital, is her nephew.

'She was supposed to be back in Chennai today,' husband N. Balan told PTI.

Bangalore police chief M.N. Reddi had said yesterday that the terror angle 'could not be ruled out' in the blast on Church Road, the city's party hub.

No outfit has claimed responsibility but security agencies in Delhi did not rule out the involvement of Simi, a banned organisation blamed for such low-intensity blasts earlier.

Rijiju said multiple agencies were trying to ascertain who were behind yesterday's explosion outside a restaurant in the run-up to the New Year celebrations.

<-4.000>Rajnath promised all possible central help to Karnataka and asked the state government to install enough CCTVs in the city's prime areas. 'I appeal to the Karnataka government to install CCTV cameras as much as possible, in as many places.' He repeated the advice for all states with big cities.

National security adviser Ajit Doval, home secretary Anil Goswami and IB chief Asif Ibrahim were present in today's meeting where they also reviewed the situation in Assam after Bodo militants killed over 70 people last week.
