New Delhi, Feb 17 (PTI): Delhi Police has enough evidence against Kanhaiya Kumar, the JNU Students Union leader arrested on sedition charges for a campus event at which anti-India slogans were raised, commissioner B.S. Bassi said Wednesday.

Bassi, who has been getting flak for arresting Kanhaiya on sedition charges, said outsiders had also participated in the February 9 event on the Jawaharlal Nehru University campus to mark the 3rd anniversary of Afzal Guru, a convict in the 2001 Parliament attack case.

”We have adequate evidence against him (Kumar). I won't be telling you about the process of investigation and what all we have found out so far,” Bassi told reporters as he emerged from the Prime Minister’s Office.

Bassi said he had gone to the PMO to invite some officials to a programme being hosted by him.

Bassi dismissed reports that Kanhaiya may not have raised anti-national slogans or made an inflammatory speech at the JNU event.

”People in huge numbers participated in it (the event), and we have already identified the ring leader. Now we are looking for all those who have been identified. Very soon we will get hold of them,” he said.

Bassi said there was no question of giving a clean chit to Kanhaiya, whose arrest last Friday on sedition charges prompted students and then faculty of JNU to go on a strike demanding his release.

”Not at all,” he said when asked whether there was any clean chit to Kumar.
