Are we speechless?

For Madhavan the smooch with Vidya in Guru will remain his first and last onscreen. He broke his no-kiss code only for his mentor Mani Ratnam. And his wife not only approved of it, but Madhavan claims she liked it (shades of Hrithik-Ash and Suz in Dhoom 2?). Vidya? She’s slowly breaking the barriers, hmmm....

Jiah Khan

Are we speechless?

Jiah Khan will be taking it all away in Nishabd. Her looks have given her enough plugs already. But Nishabd gets a lot more than just long legs and sexy looks from this babe. She has also sung for the film, choreographed her own dance numbers and done a Hips don’t lie Shakira-style belly dance for the film! This film with Big B and Jiah Khan promises to set the screen ablaze. RGV knows his stuff (like always).

Sherlyn Chopra

Atom, not Item

“I am an atom bomb, not an item bomb.” That’s Sherlyn Chopra for you who has earned fame for dropping her clothes and her screen names for every new film. The girl who has done films like Time Pass and Naughty Boy, not to bother that both fell flat on their faces at the BO, has the cheek of comparing herself with all the top heroines of today. She is doing an item number, Lut le gaya, in Raj Kanwar’s forthcoming flick, Raqeeb. But she, like Koena before her, doesn’t like to be called an item girl and thinks if Ash in Bunty Aur Babli and Shakti, Rekha in Parineeta, Urmila in ChinaGate, Lara in Khakee, Rani in Mann, Shilpa Shetty in Shool, Sushmita in Fiza and Kareena in Don are item girls in those songs, “then I am also one”. Well, girl, drop it (meaning, names) one at a time.

SPOTLIGHT

If it doesn’t work, Meghna will get married

“No work, all play makes Meghna a dull Jane,” laughs Meghna Naidu, though she immediately adds, “No, it’s nothing like that. In fact, I was waiting for the right opportunity to knock on my door. I also wanted a bit of a break.”

So did the right opportunity arrive? And break, from what, yaar? “Yes, I was waiting for this moment. Champak Jain from Venus approached me for his album. The album was promoting a social cause for the environment and the health of people. It has a song which is against smoking. It mentions, ‘Smoking is injurious to health’ and ‘Please stop smoking’. I wanted this message to reach people and so I agreed to participate in it,” she explains.

Lately, this chubby chick has turned into a fitness freak. “I wanted to work on my physical persona and wanted to get rid of my flab. Hence I joined a gym and within 20 days not only have I become firm and fit physically, my face has also taken a shape.”

Not many would know that Meghna is concentrating on regional films. She has done films in Bengali, Kannada, Telugu and Tamil. It is a coincidence that Ashok Kumar Nanda saw her in a salwar kameez, and approached her for a role in his film, Riwaz, since he felt that she is the girl he was looking for. This film has a big lineup of character actors from Reema Lagoo to Vijay Raaz to Deepti Naval.

But what’s keeping her away from all the bigwig producers? “Probably, I have never followed my intuition. I had people who gave me wrong impressions and kept misguiding me. I always felt that they were genuine people. But now I have become wise enough and selfish about choosing roles. I will not hesitate to approach the bigwigs now.”

And what kept them away from her for so long? “Oh! It was a misunderstanding. Somehow, they all felt that I was not keen on working, as false rumours of my getting married were being spread on and off.” But Meghna is very optimistic about her career. Though she has made several goofups she feels her career is far from over. “Not yet. I will give about one-and-half years more for my career. If at all it doesn’t work, I’ll get married to the guy I am going steady with, Rajesh Shetty.”
