AIIMS elevator crash
• New Delhi: A lift near the office of the AIIMS medical superintendent came crashing down from the second floor on Saturday, leaving five persons injured, an official said. The incident occurred around 11.45am. The official added that the lift fell down from the second floor because of a technical fault. According to a senior police officer, two persons are suspected to have suffered fractures. PTI
OCI card row
New delhi: Delhi High Court has sought the Centre's response on a plea by a US-based Indian-origin doctor against the cancellation of his Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) registration for alleged missionary activities in Bihar. Justice Rajiv Shakdher also issued a notice to the Indian Consulate at Houston, US, which had in August last year cancelled the doctor's OCI card, and sought its response before the next date of hearing on July 18. Labourers 'killed'
jaipur: Two Dalit boys were allegedly beaten to death in separate incidents in Rajasthan's Bharatpur and Alwar districts, officials said on Saturday. Jaswant Jatav, 26, a labourer, was beaten to death on Friday night. In Alwar district, a clash broke out between two groups of youths during Holi celebrations yesterday. Neeraj Jatav, 16, was killed. THANE: Three persons, including two residents of Jammu and Kashmir, have been arrested for allegedly smuggling charas worth Rs 31 lakh, police said on Saturday. Thane additional commissioner of police (crime), Makarand Ranade, said sleuths of the anti-extortion cell acting on a tip-off apprehended the trio on Wednesday. PTI

MUMBAI: Several garments and chemical units were gutted in a fire in Andheri late on Friday, a civic official said. The blaze erupted in Aslfa at 11.45pm and efforts to douse the blaze are still underway, a BMC official said. PTI

Dalit woman's job plea
• CHENNAI: Madras High Court has directed the state-run power utility TANGEDCO to consider the plea of a Dalit woman for appointment as assistant engineer in view of her score in the qualifying test and outstanding scout award received from the President. The court noted that candidates with lesser marks than the petitioner have been selected for the post and ordered TANGEDCO to consider appointing R. Priyadarsini to the post within four weeks. PTI

• NEW DELHI: The transport department of the Delhi government has made debit cards acceptable in all online transactions related to its services, moving towards complete automation and digitisation. Further, four motor licensing offices will be fully online. The process of registration certificate will be completely online from March 7, transport commissioner Varsha Joshi said. PTI
Tribal girl rescued
• UTTARKASHI: A mob on Saturday vandalised the shop and house of a scrap dealer after a nine-year-old tribal girl who was allegedly abducted by him in Uttarakhand was found locked in a bathroom on Friday, officials said. The girl on Thursday went out to buy colours for Holi but did not return home prompting her family to lodge a missing complaint. She was rescued on Friday and the accused arrested. PTI

• LUCKNOW: At least seven people were killed in separate road accidents in Uttar Pradesh on Holi, police said on Saturday. In Barabanki, five people were killed in three accidents. Two people died in Banda after their motorcycle collided with the official car of the city magistrate, police said. PTI
