Raipur, Oct. 23 (PTI): L.K. Advani today demanded “serious investigation” to ascertain P. Chidambaram’s role in spectrum allocation in 2008 and questioned the Prime Minister’s leadership, alleging that several scams had happened “under his nose”.
Advani said the framing of charges against former telecom minister A. Raja and DMK MP Kanimozhi in the telecom case was welcome, but “I believe the probe has left some important facets out of its ambit”.
“Despite elaborate attempts at a cover-up, the role of former finance minister and incumbent home minister P. Chidambaram clearly merits serious investigation,” said the BJP leader, who is on a 40-day anti-corruption yatra.
“Why did Chidambaram concur with A. Raja’s decision to allot spectrum in 2008 at 2001 prices, days after giving an opinion to the contrary? I demand that the Supreme Court-directed investigation into the 2G spectrum scam must be extended to probing his (Chidambaram’s) role,” he said.
“The Manmohan Singh regime has been so weakened by a succession of gigantic corruption scandals that it has no capacity left to respond to challenges,” Advani said. “The Prime Minister prides himself on his personal integrity. However, the fact that the loot happened under his nose and, from all accounts, with his knowledge, puts a serious question mark on his leadership.”
Bangalore rally
Advani said on Sunday that he had not cancelled the Bangalore leg of his anti-graft yatra, contrary to reports in the media. “I will go to Karnataka and also go to Bangalore,” he said. The Bangalore rally is to be held on October 30.
