25 INJURED IN NORTHEAST MISHAP

Guwahati, July 10 :     Twentyfive persons, including 11 Border Security Force personnel, were injured in an accident near Nellie in Morigaon district this morning. The injured have been admitted to hospitals in Nagaon and Guwahati. According to sources, a bus carrying BSF personnel to a training centre in Churachandpur collided with a Guwahati-bound bus at 8.45 am. Eleven BSF personnel were injured, one of them critically. This is the second major accident on National Highway 37 over the past few days. Five persons, including former minister Gajen Tanti, were killed near Siljuri when the Assam State Transport Corporation bus in which they were travelling collided with a truck yesterday. The dead also included the director of postgraduate studies of Assam Agricultural University S.R. Barooah and Sangita Barthakur, daughter of B.C. Barthakur, editor of a Jorhat-based daily. Ulfa rebel killed: An Ulfa militant was killed in an encounter with the Army in Nalbari district this morning. The militant was identified as Anjan Kalita of Kondolimara village. Sources said the encounter took place on the eastern bank of the Pagladia river this morning. A Chinese pistol along with eight rounds of ammunition was recovered from the rebel. Meanwhile, in another incident one Bashir Ali today died of injuries which he had sustained after being pelted with stones by Bodo miscreants at Ananda Bazar in Kokrajhar district on Thursday. The police have rushed additional forces to the area apprehending a communal flare-up following the incident.
