At least 12 civilians were injured when militants launched a grenade attack on security personnel in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama on Wednesday, said the police.

The grenade, he said, missed its intended target and hit the road, which resulted in the incident.

The civilians, who sustained splinter injuries due to the explosion, were rushed to a nearby hospital, the official added.

According to media reports, no security personnel was hurt in the attack.

The official said that the area has been cordoned off and a hunt has been launched to nab the militants.

This comes days after India had summoned Pakistan High Commission’s Charge d'Affaires, lodging a heavy protest over several unprovoked violations in ceasefire by the Pakistani troops along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir last Friday.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), in a statement, also condemned the "deliberate targeting" of civilians by the neighbouring country’s forces. The statement also called out Pakistan’s act of choosing an Indian festive occasion to perpetrate violence thereby disrupting peace in Jammu and Kashmir with its coordinated attacks along the LoC.

Five security personnels were killed in the attacks along with four civilians, while 19 others were seriously injured.
