Workers rescued from the Silkyara tunnel were airlifted to AIIMS-Rishikesh for a health check-up, officials said. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met the workers kept under medical observation at a hospital in Chinyalisaur and handed over Rs 1 lakh to each of them. The 41 workers, who were rescued in a multi-agency operation, kept their spirits up while trapped inside by taking morning walks and practising yoga, a rescued worker told Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Hamas released 12 hostages and Israel released 30 Palestinian prisoners, the fifth day of a fragile cease-fire that has enabled humanitarian aid to flow into Gaza and that mediators hope to extend even as Israel pledges to resume the war. CIA director William Burns and David Barnea, who heads Israel's Mossad intelligence agency, were in Qatar, a key mediator with Hamas, to discuss extending the cease-fire and releasing more hostages, a diplomat said on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the talks.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in an apparent reference to Mahua Moitra's cash-for-query case, asserted that TMC MPs have compromised the dignity of Parliament by accepting bribes and gifts. "Even TMC MPs have tarnished the dignity of Parliament. Can MPs who seek gifts and bribes in exchange for questions contribute positively to West Bengal? The TMC has stained West Bengal's reputation due to corruption," Shah stated without explicitly naming anyone.

India has constituted a high-level inquiry committee to probe allegations relating to a conspiracy to kill a Sikh extremist on American soil. External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said on Wednesday that India constituted a high-level inquiry committee on November 18 to look into all the relevant aspects of the matter.

BCCI extended the contract of Indian cricket team head coach Rahul Dravid in order to maintain continuity following the senior side's stupendous performance in the ODI World Cup where it won 10 games in a row before losing the final. BCCI secretary Jay Shah said that Dravid will have 'full backing' of the board, moving forward in his endeavour to win the ICC Trophy, which is missing from the cabinet for the last decade.

Supreme Court adjourned till January 10 the hearing on the bail plea of former JNU student Umar Khalid in a case lodged under anti-terror law UAPA over his alleged involvement in the conspiracy behind the northeast Delhi riots of February 2020. Supreme Court judge Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra had on August 9 recused himself from hearing Khalid's plea.

The combined market valuation of all listed companies on the leading stock exchange BSE reached the USD 4-trillion milestone for the first time ever on Wednesday. Thanks to the optimism in equities, the market capitalisation of BSE-listed companies reached Rs 3,33,26,881.49 crore in morning trade, translating into USD 4 trillion at the exchange rate of 83.31.

United States is set to begin a pilot programme for domestic renewal of certain categories of H-1B visas in December, a step that will benefit a significantly large number of Indian technology professionals, a US official has said. Over a period of three months, beginning December, the State Department will be issuing 20,000 visas to foreign nationals who are already inside the country.

The language experts at OUPhave examined the 19-billion-word corpus of spoken and written language data for words or expressions that have seen a spike in usage or that have been recently added to the language (neologisms), officials said.
