The name: Shabdhan Pancha Aashchhe.

The players: Rudranil Ghosh, June, Subrat Dutta, Rituparna Sen....

The playback: Kunal Ganjawala, Jojo, Rupam, Sidhu....

The maker: Arin Paul.

Arin who?

Arin Paul, all of 28, has a degree in filmmaking from the Asian Academy of Film and Television in Noida to show. But far more impressive is the ‘work ex’ on this debutant’s CV.

After coming back to Calcutta in 2002, he got down to the grind, assisting various telefilm and mega serial directors. And that includes a certain Anjan Dutt on three telefilms for ETV Bangla: Jay Baba Rudranath, Amar Bangla and Abelay Nilima. “I have also assisted Tathagata-Anindo and Birsa Dasgupta among others. And I recently made three short films — And There Wasn’t Ever After which has been selected for the Thrissur International Film Festival, Terrorist, and Bhin Deshi Tara which is in its post-production stage. I deliberately didn’t do a telefilm because I wanted to do a feature film first,” says Arin.

And that’s precisely what he is doing with Shabdhan Pancha Aashchhe, a comedy revolving around a couple (June-Subrat) and a salesman (Rudranil). “Rudranil is Pancha who comes to June-Subrat’s house and all hell breaks loose”.

“I chose Subrat, though he has been seen in negative roles in recent films, because I had worked with him in Shudhu Tomari Jonye on ETV Bangla and found him sensitive. I think he can handle comedy well.... I chose Rudra because his face and body language match the character Pancha. And for the housewife’s role, I wanted someone who has a very modern face. June has that urban look.”

The film being produced by Best Wishes Entertainment hits the floors on July 18. It will be shot at “various locations in Calcutta”. The music promises to be one of the highlights. “There are six songs in the film. Ex-Chandrabindoo keyboardist Drono Acharya debuts as music director. Kunal Ganjawala, Jojo, Rupam and Sidhu apart, Rudranil will do a fun song,” smiles Arin.
