PASSION PROJECT: She would love to design for Deepika Padukone and believes that when it comes to jewellery, there “are no rules any more”. Meet Sneha Rateria, who showcased her new line of jewellery under the Sneha Rateria Fine Jewelry umbrella, at Aqua (The Park) last month.

“Designing runs in my blood. My mother (Saroj) has been in the jewellery business for the last 40 years. She only works with silver, which is why she pushed me into working with something different. My passion for jewellery began while working with my mother and I decided on working towards my own brand,” said Sneha, 34, who studied finance at Boston University and followed it up with a degree from Singapore’s Sotheby’s Institute of Art. For her, “customer satisfaction is everything” and “light yet elegant” the main idea behind her work.

These bird-shaped earrings from her new collection are Sneha’s personal favourites.

What tips have come from uncle L.N. Mittal? “He loves the fact that I started my own line and has always complimented me for my work. He always has pointers to give me in the form of stories and experiences that I imbibe… I find them useful and relatable,” smiled Sneha, who loves emerald and gold. Pictures: Rashbehari Das
