Wakanda Forever raises Rs 12 crore on Day 1 in India, Uunchai grosses Rs 1.8 crore

Marvel Studios’ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever raised around Rs 12 crore in India on its Day 1 at the box office, becoming the highest grosser among the films — both Hindi and English — that released on Friday in the country.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is a sequel to Academy Award-winning film Black Panther (2018), which went on to make $1.3 billion worldwide.

Sooraj Barjatya’s Uunchai, which released in limited screens, managed to raise around Rs 1.8 crore on its opening day, becoming the highest-grossing Hindi film among the latest lot of films that hit theatres this week, according to early reports from Box Office India.

Rajshri Productions is banking on word-of-mouth publicity to drum up the numbers at the box office, and plans to increase the shows for Uunchai in a phased manner, as per trade analyst Taran Adarsh.

Uunchai stars Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, Neena Gupta, Sarika, Danny Denzongpa and Parineeti Chopra. It is about a group of octogenarian friends who trekk to the Everest Base Camp in memory of their best friend.
