The latest instalment in a much-loved action-adventure franchise. A hit movie from the early 2000s releasing in a remastered version. A social drama about a fearless advocate. A murder mystery thriller. Here are four English, Hindi, Bengali and Tamil films to watch in theatres this weekend.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (English)

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is a sequel to Bumblebee (2018) and prequel to Transformers (2007). The seventh instalment in the Transformers live-action film series revolves around the Maximals, a race of beast-robots who defend their jungle homeworld from the planet-devouring Unicron, while the Terrorcons seek the Maximals’ Transwarp Key. On earth, Noah (Anthony Ramos) unknowingly encounters Autobot Mirage, and museum intern Elena (Dominique Fishback) discovers half of the Transwarp Key. The Autobots and Maximals unite to retrieve the missing key piece and confront the Terrorcons.

Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (Hindi)

Cast: Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, Amrish Puri

Anil Sharma’s 2001 blockbuster Gadar: Ek Prem Katha is re-releasing in theatres in 4K resolution and Dolby Atmos audio format, ahead of the sequel's release in August this year. Set in 1947, this action-packed love story shows how Sunny Deol’s Tara Singh fights against all odds to rescue his wife Sakina (Ameesha Patel), held captive against her wishes by her father Ashraf Ali (Amrish Puri) in Pakistan.

Aporajeyo (Bengali)

Cast: Ranjit Mullick, Sabitri Chatterjee, Laboni Sarkar and Sayan Banerjee

Veteran actor Ranjit Mullick plays advocate Subhankar Sanyal in the social drama Aparajeyo. While Subhankar fights for the rights of aged parents neglected by their children, his own son is settled abroad to focus on his career. However, the veteran advocate refuses to let his personal issues hamper his work.

Por Thozhil (Tamil)

Directed by: Vignesh Raja

Cast: Ashok Selvan, Sarath Kumar and Nikhila Vimal

Vignesh Raja’s Por Thozhil is a gritty thriller set in Trichy in the 2010s. A string of horrifying murders compels the law enforcement agencies to uncover any discernible pattern. Rookie cop Prakash (Ashok Selvan) teams up with his senior Lokanathan (Sarath Kumar) to investigate the case. Lokanathan exhibits remarkable skills despite his easily irritable nature, while Prakash struggles with emotional awkwardness. Together, they collaborate in an attempt to unravel the mystery, apprehend the killers and uncover their motive.
