THE ENTRY
In what is widely considered one of the most iconic entries in film, Arnie’s Terminator appears (in The Terminator, 1984) in a flash of lightning (above), landing in the present day in his birthday suit. The cyborg chances upon a gang of tramps and demands their clothes. When they pull out their knives, the T-800 takes them on with his bare hands. The scene shows off Arnie’s buff body and toned butt and has been brought back in various ways in subsequent Terminator films: in Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991), he strolls into a biker bar in the nude while in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003), he enters a cocktail bar on ladies’ night and chances upon a male stripper. Was Arnie the inspiration for Aamir Khan (inset) in PK?
I’LL BE BACK!
One of the most memorable lines ever, “I’ll be back”, has become a popular catchphrase — Arnie used the line even during his campaign trail when he was running for California governor. In the first film, Arnie’s Terminator follows Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) and Kyle Reese (Michael Biehn) to the police station after they are arrested. When he’s denied entry, the Terminator examines the not-so-strong wall of the station and bellows: “I’ll be back”. Sure enough he’s back… driving his car right through the wall! The line has been used in many Arnie films thereon. Remember that time in The Expendables when a 60-plus Arnie says: “I’ll be back!” and Bruce Willis’s Cross cuts him down with: “You’ve been back many times!”
HASTA LA VISTA, BABY
Yet another Terminator catchphrase that’s found its way into pop culture. In Terminator 2, Connor tells
T-800 that the easiest way for a cyborg to pass off as a human is to incorporate lines like “No problemo” and “Hasta la vista” in its vocabulary. Towards the end of the film, the T-800 has a showdown with the
T-1000 and annihilates him with: “Hasta la vista… baby”, delivered in trademark deadpan.
YOU ARE TERMINATED, F****R
Towards the end of the first film, the tense factory fight is a must pick for this list. The T-101 edges menacingly towards a trapped Sarah, who, in one moment, goes from being helpless human to badass mercenary. The face-off is an iconic moment in the Terminator franchise.
