Radhika Apte, whom we had seen in Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury’s Antaheen, will be back in Calcutta for Soukarya Ghoshal’s debut film Pendulum. The other pivotal woman character in the film is being played by Sreelekha Mitra, who has started shooting in Behala.

Pendulum is about five incidents that take place simultaneously in Calcutta. All the characters are interrelated,” said Soukarya.

Pendulum also stars Samadarshi, Subhashish Mukhopadhyay, Rajesh Sharma, Anindya Pulak Banerjee, Shankar Debnath and Rajatava Dutta.

“Subhashishda plays a painter and Rajesh Sharma a promoter. Anindya plays a visually challenged professor and Sreelekha plays his wife, who’s a professor of English. Samadarshi is a college student and Radhika plays his girlfriend, who works in an ad agency. Rajatava plays a tutor, while Shankar is a driver,” the first-time director said.

“I loved the story and that’s why I said yes to the film. Though Soukarya is a new director, he is very organised and thorough with the script.... I play a dignified professor who almost mothers her visually challenged husband, but in the end there’s a shocking twist to the character,” said Sreelekha.

Radhika, who joins the team next week, told t2 over phone: “My character is a working woman who is in a relationship with a younger man (Samadarshi). I found the role interesting and, of course, the story, which has interesting twists.”

Produced by Cozum Analytics, Pendulum will be shot entirely in Calcutta.

superstar: “For the first time in my career, I have got the lead role in a film and I’m very excited!” chirped Subhashree, after the first day’s shoot of Surajit Dhar-Sudarshan Basu’s Megh Roddur at Ffort Raichak on Tuesday. She plays Madhuja Sen, a filmstar. Opposite her is newcomer Palash. Megh Roddur is “inspired” by the Julia Roberts-Hugh Grant starrer Notting Hill (1999). So how does it feel to step into the shoes of Julia Roberts? “Well, I had seen the film a long time ago and apart from the superstar-falling-for-a-simple-guy bit, Megh Roddur is very different. It’s not a remake,” she said. “I completely identify with my character because like me, Madhuja is an actress. She entered the industry very early in life like me and she became successful in a short span. She never went to college, something that I regret too,” added Subhashree. And does she feel a little lost without Dev on the sets? “No, no, not at all! Dev wished me luck on Twitter and so did Koeldi (Mallick) and Bumbada (Prosenjit)! I’m enjoying work,” she signed off.
