What prompted you to be a part of Ms. Taken?

I noticed that affordable western wear is not easily available in India. When I met with Anjana Reddy, the founder of USPL, we discussed this at length, and decided to collaborate. Anjana and I shared the vision to create a stylish range of clothing in India that is for the youth and by the youth. That is how Ms. Taken was conceived.

What’s your role in the brand?

This brand is a reflection of my own sense of style and it allows me to connect with my fans beyond films. I work closely with the design team of USPL and curate this line. I focus on keeping the designs truly international with differentiated silhouettes, unique colour palettes and fashionable styling but at the same time ensuring that it matches Indian sensibilities.

Considering you have a fab sense of style, any plans to be a hands-on designer?

So far I am thoroughly enjoying my role as a collaborator and curator for Ms. Taken. Being a hands-on designer needs a lot more time and effort and I don’t believe in doing something half-heartedly. So no immediate plan for sure. But never say never!

How is Ms. Taken different from so many other fashion brands?

Ms. Taken epitomises the young Indian woman who is independent and is not shy of expressing her individuality. She is confident and walks the talk. Often an Indian woman’s demeanour is misconstrued when she expresses herself. Ms. Taken fills that space when it comes to affordable western wear, keeping in mind Indian sensibilities.

If you were to style an actress in your label, who would it be and what would you pick for her?

I would love to style Priyanka (Chopra) in a Ms. Taken sexy metallic silver dress. She is someone who can carry off anything with great ease and metallic suits her a lot!

We love your casual day looks to the racy super-glam red carpet ones! How much do you depend on your stylist and how much do you decide what you are wearing?

I think styling is basically a collaborative process. I discuss with my stylist a lot and it’s always a blend of her and my sensibilities and comfort. Your stylist needs to understand your body type and what suits you and your taste. Sometimes you go with just your instinct and comfort and sometimes you just let your stylist experiment.

Which fashion trends are you crushing on at the moment? And which trend would you like to say bye to?

I personally love the cold shoulder trend and the slip dress with a jacket or a sweatshirt. I would like to say bye to puffed shoulders and shoulder pads as I never understood that trend.

And a trend you would love to revive?

I would love to revive the boho retro trend of bell bottoms and big transparent sunnies.

What’s the workout regimen that keeps you fit?

My workout regimen is a combination of Pilates and weight training. I am a foodie and I eat everything but I try to eat right and make it a point to drink a lot of water. While I do have my cheat meals, I work out at least four to five times a week.

Talking of cheat meals, what do you binge on?

I usually don’t go on strict diets unless I really need to get a particular look for a film or a shoot. But when I do, my Sunday lunch is a cheat meal when I have anything from a butter chicken/mutton curry/ biryani along with a dessert I love.

You have flawless skin, what about some make-up hacks for us...

Moisturising is very important to keep your skin healthy and hydrated. I believe less is more when it comes to make-up. Minimal concealing with some mascara, blush and a lip tint is all I love. For night-outs, I either go for  smoky eyes or else a pop lip but never both!

In terms of fashion, what do you have a fetish for?

I love shopping and like all girls I never have enough stuff in my wardrobe! But I have a newly developed fetish for sunglasses.

What is the best and worst thing about being a well-dressed person?

The best thing about being well-dressed is that you feel good and confident about yourself. I don’t believe that there is a flip side to being well-dressed.

Among your films, pick one where you looked the best...

I feel I looked my best so far in Raabta as my character could experiment a lot in terms of fashion. Also Anaita Adajania Shroff is just fabulous and can make anyone look sexy!

If we spot you partying, what would you be wearing?

(Laughs) It depends where you spot me partying! For a night-out I will wear a fitted cool dress and layer it with a jacket. I really love layering and I am someone who feels cold everywhere so I always need the option of having the jacket on. If I am casually partying then it’s black pants with black boots, a nice top or a black ganjee with a jacket on. It’s like my go-to style and it works wonders whether you are indoor or outdoor.

What’s your festive style like?

I like wearing floor-length Anarkalis, crop tops with those long high-waist skirts that don’t need a dupatta. Sometimes I like not heavy but delicate saris with a sexy blouse.
