K-pop singer Moonbin has died at the age of 25, his band ASTRO said in a statement on Thursday.

“On April 19, ASTRO member Moon Bin suddenly left us and became a star in the sky,” Fantiago Co. Ltd, the company that manages ASTRO, said in a statement posted on Instagram on behalf of the band.

“It is incomparable to the sorrow of the bereaved families who lost their beloved son and brother, but all of the ASTRO members and fellow Fantagio artists are also deeply mourning the deceased in great shock and sadness,”

Moonbin started his career as a child model in 2004. He joined ASTRO in 2016. He had also been cast in the Korean film Moments of Eighteen in which he played the character of Jung Oh-je. After a hiatus due to health reasons, the star returned to ASTRO in 2020.

On the evening of April 19, 2023, Moonbin was reportedly found dead at his residence in the Gangnam area of Seoul. Prima facie, it appears that the 25-year-old died by suicide, police have told the Korean media.

According to Korean media reports, Moonbin will be buried at the Asan Central Medical Center and his younger brother Moon Sua will be the chief mourner. Other members of ASTRO are also likely to attend the funeral. Fans from across the world have poured in wishes for the other members as well as penned heartfelt notes to the late star across the internet.

According to Fantagio, ASTRO members JinJin and Sanha have been spending time with the bereaved family. MJ also got a special leave from his military duties to attend the funeral. Cha Eunwoo is traveling from the United States to be present at the event.

Moonbin and Sanha from ASTRO were scheduled to perform at the Dream Concert in Busan as part of their duo, Moonbin & Sanha.
