It’s been 13 years since Calcutta learnt to watch films the uber-cool way. And now, it’s Belur’s turn to ‘live the movie’ with multiplex chain INOX unveiling a spanking-new film address at the swanky Rangoli Mall on Belur’s Girish Ghosh Road. t2 takes stock of the city’s newest plex stop.
THE ENTRANCE
Sprawled over 24,000sq ft on the second level of Rangoli Mall and made on a budget of Rs 4.5 crore, INOX (Belur) shares floor space with the food court called Burp. An all-round glass facade affords a clear view of the plex, that has been designed by Mumbai-based Aries Architects. But no selfie zone here — unlike the INOX mirror signage at the entrance to Quest!
THE SCREENS
This INOX boasts three screens, totalling 830 seats. Screen 3 is the biggest with 351 seats. Done up in red and blue, the audis are spacious and have ample leg space, with a wide gap between the fifth and the sixth rows in Screen 3, along the lines of standalone theatres. The audis have push-back seats but unlike the INOX properties at Quest and South City, there are no recliners in the last row. Also, INOX (Belur) doesn’t have the super luxurious Insignia screens that have found loyalists at Quest and South City. Screen 2, however, is 3D enabled.
But like all the other INOX plexes, Belur has the best in terms of audio and visual — from the latest Barco projector C Series sx 3000 to a CP 750 processor that ensures distortion-free sound.
THE TICKET STOP
The ticket counter — ‘box office’ in plex parlance — is located to the right of the multiplex entrance. Done up in the trademark blue and yellow INOX colours, the box office has four points of sale and is attractively done up with digital posters. A big first? The box office, a first for any INOX in the city, does away with the glass facade separating the customer from the ticket seller. Moreover, film buffs will also be able to pick and choose their seats at leisure, courtesy the screens installed on the front panels of the counter that give a view of the seating in the audi. The pocket pinch for a ticket? “The prices will be approximately 20 per cent more at Belur than at our property in Liluah,” said Subhasis Ganguli, regional director (east), INOX.
THE LOBBY
A stone-finish vinyl facade is the predominant theme at both the lobby and the box office counter. The spacious lobby, that houses the food counter aka Refuel, has digital posters mounted on the walls. “As opposed to static posters, this property only has digital posters, something that will enable us to even screen movie trailers in the lobby,” said Ganguli.
The sip ’n’ bite options are the usual plex staples: popcorn to cola, nachos to sandwiches. And yes, no non-vegetarian bites here too!
