Classroom: B.Com (hons) from South City College.

Stage debut: In the site-specific production Is Job Charnock Coming to Dinner in 2003, presented by Creative Arts.

Claim to fame: Written and directed Sthalantar during a workshop at the NSD. The play was selected by NSD for publication in Theatre India and Rang Prasang. Souptic also won the Indo-US INLAKS award.

He honed his skills at: Ramanjit Kaur’s Creative Arts. He was part of Latune, an Afghani collaborative play with Santanu Bose. In 2007, Souptic joined a 20-day workshop at the NSD, conducted by playwright Mahesh Elkunchwar. “The workshop opened up immense possibilities. That was when I gained the confidence to write a play. Writing gave me an insight into how emotions develop in characters,” he says.

Present projects: Worked with Rimini Protocall’s Calcutta In a Box project and joined the UK project of Theatre Science in Bangalore. He is also involved in a project for the mentally and physically challenged.

Future plans: To be a stage director. “Right now, I am concentrating on acting because I believe I need to learn a lot more before I can become a good director.”
