Actress Chitrangda Singh, who turned producer with Soorma, is exploring a film based on the life of a disabled swimmer. “She is intrigued by the a story of disabled sports lady who has done so much for the country. She is a swimmer who hails from the South. We are in talks. Biopics do take time as you have to take permission and all,” a source close to the development told PTI. In Soorma, Chitrangda had narrated the story of former India hockey captain, Sandeep Singh, who was accidentally hit by a gunshot in a train in 2006. Talking about the trend of biopics, Chitrangda had earlier said: “I am totally in favour of biopics. True stories must be told to the people. If you tell it well, it does work.” She was last seen in Sanjay Dutt starrer Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 3. Her next release is Bazaar with Saif Ali Khan in the lead.
British actor Matt Smith has reportedly been cast in an unspecified role in Star Wars: Episode XI. Sources have confirmed to EW that The Crown star will play a “key role” that is not just a cameo in the film being directed by J.J. Abrams. Smith, who received an Emmy nomination for playing Prince Philip in the Netflix royal drama, also played the 11th incarnation in UK sci-fi series Doctor Who. Other cast members include Keri Russell and Dominic Monaghan. Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver are also expected to return. Episode XI is currently shooting in England and is slated to release on December 19.
Carys Zeta Douglas, the daughter of Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones, believed her Oscar-winning father made pancakes for a living when she was growing up. “I thought my dad was a pancake maker,” she told Town & Country in an interview for its September issue. “I didn’t know he was an actor. Honestly.” The 15-year-old appears alongside Zeta-Jones on the cover of Town & Country’s Modern Swan issue, the magazine’s annual edition that features Hollywood’s rising stars born to famous parents.
Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey viewed acting as a temporary gig prior to getting cast in Richard Linklater’s 1993 classic Dazed and Confused. In a recent interview to Entertainment Tonight, the actor explained: “That (David Wooderson in Dazed and Confused) was the role that, at that time I didn’t know if it was going to be a hobby or something I was doing for the summer, and it turned out to be a career. That’s where it all started and I always look back to that one.” He has since achieved stardom for roles in films such as Frailty, Killer Joe, and The Wolf of Wall Street and Dallas Buyers Club.
Glow star Betty Gilpin has joined the cast of A Dog’s Purpose follow-up. The new film, titled A Dog’s Journey, will mark the return of Dennis Quaid and Josh Gad, who did voice work for the dog, Bailey, in the 2017 film. The Hollywood Reporter said Gilpin, 32, joined the cast along with Marg Helgenberger, Henry Lau and Kathryn Prescott. The sequel is also based on the best-selling books by W. Bruce Cameron, who wrote the script with Cathryn Michon and Wally Wolodarsky and Maya Forbes. A Dog’s Journey has a release date of May 17, 2019.
