Streaming platform Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video on Friday unveiled the first teaser for Vought Rising, a prequel series set in the universe of hit superhero satire The Boys, with the show slated to premiere in 2027.

“Back to where it all began: official teaser for Vought Rising revealed,” a press communique from Prime Video said, describing the series as “the highly anticipated new series set within the world of the multi-Emmy Award-winning global phenomenon, The Boys.”

The series stars Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash, both of whom will also serve as producers. Other cast members include Mason Dye, Will Hochman, KiKi Layne, Jorden Myrie, Nicolo Pasetti, Elizabeth Posey, Ricky Staffieri and Brian J. Smith.

Set in the 1950s, Vought Rising will explore the origins of fictional conglomerate Vought International. According to the release, the teaser “offers a diabolical first look at the world and story that will define this next evolution of the franchise.”

Paul Grellong will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Executive producers on the series also include Eric Kripke, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Ori Marmur, Ken Levin, Jason Netter, Garth Ennis, Darick Robertson, Michaela Starr and Jim Barnes.

The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, in association with Kripke Enterprises, Point Grey Pictures and Original Film.

The fifth and final season of The Boys, which concluded earlier this week, brought the curtain down on the flagship series that helped build Prime Video’s superhero franchise.

Created by Eric Kripke and based on the comic books by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, the show followed a group of vigilantes led by Billy Butcher as they battled corrupt superpowered celebrities controlled by the powerful Vought International corporation.

Blending graphic violence, political satire and dark comedy, the series centred on the growing conflict between Butcher and the unstable superhero Homelander, while exploring themes of corporate power, media manipulation and celebrity culture.

The final season premiered on Prime Video in April and concluded on May 20.
