As the sweltering summertime heat threatens to play spoilsport to fashion plans, the sari wearer finds respite with Kanishka’s line of hand-woven and hand block printed saris, simply titled ‘Suti’.

“Every summer we show a new summer collection. While our classics have always been handlooms and block-prints, this year we show an inclusion of canary yellow and parrot green colours in our work,” said Nandita Raja, founder, who was present at the launch of the line that coincided with the beginning of a year that celebrates 45 years of the 2/1 Hindusthan Road brand.

Sitting pretty in six yards of fabric from the collection were songstress Usha Uthup and actress and dancer Jaya Seal. The Suti collection is resplendent with a range of mulmuls, Maheshwaris, tribal cottons and khadis, along with tangails, kotas and hand-printed cotton works.

And the ladies posed for pictures...

Today this sari caught his attention,” she confessed. “Lighter fabrics are perfect for summer, especially during the day.”  (RIght) Wearing a green Odisha tribal sari and with her hair left open, Jaya Seal Ghosh cut a pretty picture. “Handloom fabrics are so light and easy to maintain. It’s really good, especially when you have young kids to look after,” said the mother of two young boys.
