The sparkly bindi

It was a last-minute addition. We thought that the little bling bindi would catch the light beautifully, and it did!

The earrings

They are long kundan earrings, they needed to show when she moved. I like the antique look.

The body

Bebo’s new body is perfect. People are really appreciating her fuller figure of Bodyguard, 3 Idiots etc. She is between a size 1 and 2, so no more complaints of her being a size 0!

The red

The colour had to be simple yet very effective. Colour has always been my forte. This one is a nice red and since there’s such festivity in the air, it couldn’t have worked out better!

The sari

The song comes right after an action sequence so we had to maintain the continuity. The choreographer thought it better we tuck in the pallu. That meant making a pre-stitched sari overnight. We did it and the sari rocked!

The blown-out hair

It’s glamorous, it’s open. I like this kind of hair. And such a glam look begs for this hairstyle!

The Marathi nose ring

It’s edgy. It’s sexy. Kareena carries the nose ring quite well as she goes light on her make-up. So many young guys have told me she is really looking sensual with the nose ring!

The chooris

They’re all piled on one hand because it’s more modern that way. The chooris don’t have colour because it is more chic neutral. Matching chooris on both hands would make it too desi.

The blouse

It’s net. It’s full of oomph. The sleeves are sheer, in my signature style. The sheerness adds that sensuality and the borders give that desi touch.

The cummerbund

Chammak Challo would mean a lot of movement of the hips and emphasis on the waist, hence the cummerbund. It’s inspired by a chabi ka chhalla and it’s a kundan piece.

The anklet

A little unexpected, very Indian and so beautiful. It complements the red pedicure.

Anaita Shroff Adajania on styling G.One

She is the lady behind King Khan’s hot new look in Ra.One. Stylist Anaita Shroff Adajania fills t2 in on the making of G.One…

Is this the most ambitious film project you have been a part of till date?

I have to say yes, it is definitely the most ambitious film project I have been a part of… but every project for me has an ambitious side to it. It is always about a different expression in styling that needs to come out in the character. And I look at different influences for whichever film I work on.

For Ra.One, I had to definitely search a lot deeper because it is not a genre of film that I am used to. I had to do a lot of research to find these characters.

When Shah Rukh Khan told you that he was making a superhero film and wanted you to style it, what was the first thing that came to your mind?

The first thing that came to my mind was fear. Intense fear… because I can never say no to Shah Rukh. There was excitement as well… he made it sound so easy and so doable… that he just needed me on his side to ensure that everything was fine. Before I knew it, I was knee-deep in the film. It’s really been an amazing experience.

Shah Rukh has different characters in the film. It has been exciting and fun to explore the two completely different characters. The curly-haired Shekhar (Subramanium) and then the super hot, super sexy superhero G.One.

How challenging was it?

The superhero costume has been made by specialists in America, who do all the big superhero films. We had to look at how it would work for Shah Rukh, whether it is the design of the trousers or the shoes… the whole combination. We went through many fittings and finally came up with the actual look of the costume.

The way Shah Rukh is looking… it’s going to blow people away. Monday was the preview, but I decided not to go, as I wanted to feel the whole force of it. I wanted to be out there, in the middle of the whole drama and experience it. I am very excited.

It is always such an experience to work with Shah Rukh. He’s got so much energy… sometimes I feel old when I am around him. He just never tires and he is also very involved, which is just fabulous. He gives a lot of feedback and at the same time also listens to you.

I am also very excited about the dream sequence. It is a sequence we shot with Priyanka (Chopra) and Sanju (Sanjay Dutt)… pure fantasy. Shah Rukh looks very hot in that as well. You will get more than you bargained for. We have also shot this little music video for the end credits.

Tell us a little about the look of SRK’s other avatar, Shekhar Subramanium...

Shekhar is an Indian techie who lives in London. There is that whole IT expert thing… he is not into fashion or cares for fashion. His style is accidental, which is functional for him. The way I have seen techie guys dress… always wearing blazers, trousers and sneakers or blazers with T-shirt and jeans… it is a very put-together look, in that sense quite stereotypical but works for the character.

Whose idea was it to give Shekhar curls?

That’s amazing! That’s completely Shah Rukh’s (brainwave). As an actor, he was so amazing because he did not overplay the character. He let the look do the talking rather than act geeky. That has made it really cool.

What about G.One’s look?

We tried to keep G.One’s physical features slightly sub-human. His complexion is clear and his hair is shiny and in place. The blue eyes make him a little more icy or un-human. Also, strangely it gives G.One an endearing quality. When we were doing it, we thought it was cold, but now when I see it, I feel that he is reaching out.

What is your most memorable SRK image from the film?

SRK in the tuxedo. He looked so irresistible! I am never going to forget that image of him in the tuxedo with the bow tie open and the cummerbund. That’s my favourite look of the film. When Shah Rukh’s shirt is unbuttoned, that’s when I love him the most! I am sorry, but that is my weakness as far as he is concerned. There is nothing more irresistible than seeing his chest.

Describe the look for Shekhar’s son (Prateek Subramanium, played by Armaan Verma)...

With him, we have kept it very real. The way these kids dress…. They layer their clothes… go for anti-fit. He is not someone who is very outgoing. So, he puts on this jacket and is in his own comfort zone.

Stylewise, who is your favourite superhero?

While growing up, I was a lot into Wonder Woman. I thought she was amazing. She could fly and (those) bare legs! Her costume is absolutely fantastic! She wears this corset and a headband with a star… it appealed to me a lot. I had Wonder Woman T-shirts and pyjamas.
