WHY SO SERIOUS? FUN WITH ECONOMICS AT JU

The Young Economist Students’ Meet (YESM) 2017 hosted by the economics department of Jadavpur University, in association with t2, was all about making economics enjoyable.

Held on January 2, 3 and 4, the meet brought together students from diverse backgrounds with a common interest in finance and economics who took part in a host of events like Ecowhizz the quiz, Polemic the debate, and Paper Trail the paper presentation.

A panel discussion on ‘25 years of Indian Economic Reforms: What has it delivered?’ was one of the highlights of the meet. Manabi Bandopadhyay (second from left), the first transgender person to be appointed to the post of college principal in the country, spoke about the trials she faced and the need for socio-economic reforms. Kirit Parikh (second from right), former economic adviser in four PMOs, spoke on reforms in India since 1991. The other members on the panel were Chandra Shekhar Ghosh (far left), managing director and CEO of Bandhan Bank, and Biswajit Chatterjee (far right), former head of the department of economics at JU. The session was moderated by Gautam Gupta (centre) of the JU economics department.
