Luke Newton’s Colin Bridgerton realises it will not be easy to woo Nicola Coughlan’s Penelope Featherington whose dignity he has mortified with his ungenerous remark at the Featherington Ball in the latest teaser of Bridgerton Season 3, dropped by Netflix on Wednesday.

“Certainly Miss Featherington has grown fatigued by the misleading actions of Colin Bridgerton… It would seem that this wallflower is done being trampled,” the makers captioned the teaser, which shows Penelope sternly confronting Colin about his conversation with a few high society men at her mother’s ball.

Season 2 of the popular Shondaland series had ended with Colin asserting that he would never court his childhood friend Penelope. Penelope, who has always been in love with Colin, is devastated upon overhearing the conversation and does not respond to the letters Colin sends her from his travels.

In the teaser video dropped by Netflix on Valentine’s Day, Penelope snaps back at Colin when he asks her if something is wrong between them. “I miss you,” says the Bridgerton boy, to which Penelope tartly replies, “You miss me but you would never court me, is that correct?” The conversation soon comes to an end with Penelope walking away after accusing her childhood friend of being cruel.

Ahead of Season 3’s release in May, Coughlan, Newton and other members of the cast, including Luke Thompson, Claudia Jessie, Adjoa Andoh and Golda Rosheuvel, attended a special Valentine’s Day fan event on February 14.

The third instalment of Bridgerton, focusing on Colin and Penelope’s progress to love from friendship, will be split into two batches of four episodes. While the first part will premiere on Netflix on May 16, the second part will drop on June 13.

In a recent Instagram post, the makers revealed the titles of all eight episodes of the upcoming friends-to-lovers romance. Drawing on themes of light, love, time and nature, the episodes are ‘Out of the Shadows’, ‘How Bright the Moon’, ‘Forces of Nature’, ‘Old Friends’, ‘Tick Tock’, ‘Romancing Mister Bridgerton’, ‘Joining of Hands’ and ‘Into the Light’.

The makers also shared fresh stills from the set featuring Thompson (Benedict Bridgerton), Jessie (Eloise Bridgerton), Ruth Gemmell (Violet Bridgerton), Ruby Stokes (Francesca Bridgerton), Andoh (Lady Danbury), Rosheuvel (Queen Charlotte) and Polin (as Penelope and Colin are called by fans).

Based on the eponymous eight-book series by Julia Quinn, Bridgerton has already been renewed for Season 4.
