Actress Jennifer Winget is set to debut on the digital platform with her series Code M co-starring Rajat Kapoor and Tanuj Virwani.

The actress, who started out as a child star in films and then went on to win appreciation for her performances on TV, is excited about her new web chapter.

“I am very happy and content and I am looking for more work. Especially on television where your opportunities are very limited. A Maya from Beyhadh (2016 romantic thriller) doesn’t come every day. I am grateful to television that I got opportunities and with every show I had varied roles. I am proud of all of them. It all started with Sneha in Kasautii Zindagii Kay (original) and Dill Mill Gayye. Especially after Beyhadh every one thought I will be typecast and then Bepanaah happened where I played a naïve divorcee,” she said.

“After Beyhadh I was looking for something that will take my career a notch higher and Code M was offered when I had taken a break from television, which rarely happens.

“When I heard the script I said yes because not many actors get to wear the uniform. Considering it was an offer from Balaji, with whom I started my career, it was exciting. I play an army lawyer and it was homecoming for me. The script is tight and she is bad-a**. There was no reason for me to say no,” Jennifer, who is excited to hear the word debut again, said.

For an actress who has come this far by her own rules, she said: “I won’t do anything just to sell. I don’t want to do intimate scenes unless the role demands it. I am not comfortable with physicality. Code M was brilliantly made for me and there was everything I wanted to do and don’t want to do. There is no reason for me to stay away from the web now. People also know who I am and what I want to do and they are offering me roles accordingly.”

Not many, however, know that Jennifer made her film debut as lead opposite director Kunal Kohli in Phir Se... in 2015 but the project never got a theatrical release.

“It was disappointing when it didn’t get a theatrical release but it was released on Netflix. I am happy that at least people watched it. There is no regret personally or professionally,” she said adding that right now she doesn’t want to do films.

“I am busy with two shows and I am enjoying them. I am getting to do what I have not done before. I am choosing projects that will help me grow as an actor.”

With Code M, streaming on Zee5 and AltBalaji, the actress is trying her hands at action for the first time.

“I had to take boxing and basketball sessions. I have never tried them before and I wanted to look real. I had to do a lot of pilates to strengthen my core. I also had to train running in the heat in Jaipur so that my body language is that of an army person. I have never done any exercises or undergone any diet before, but since I was working out so much they didn’t put me on a diet,” she said.

She parted with a message to the youngsters. “Don’t run after fame. Just concentrate on the art and life will give you what you deserve,” she said. “Don’t give up when things don’t work out for you. Hang on and believe in yourself.”
