The majority of Blake Lively’s complaints of sexual harassment, conspiracy and defamation against her It Ends With Us co-star Justin Baldoni were rejected by a federal judge in a court ruling on Thursday, as per media reports.
According to The Guardian, Judge Lewis Liman threw out 10 of the 13 complaints in Lively’s lawsuit against her co-star and director of the 2024 film It Ends With Us.
Only three of Lively’s complaints have been approved for a hearing. These include breach of contract, retaliation, and aiding and abetting in retaliation.
The case would now be focussed solely on Lively’s complaints about Baldoni leading a retaliatory campaign against her, which she said had amplified negative stories about her on social media.
“This case has always been and will remain focused on the devastating retaliation and the extraordinary steps the defendants took to destroy Blake Lively’s reputation because she stood up for safety on the set and that is the case that is going to trial,” Sigrid McCawley, Lively’s attorney, said in a statement.
“For Blake Lively, the greatest measure of justice is that the people and the playbook behind these coordinated digital attacks have been exposed and are already being held accountable by other women they’ve targeted,” Sigrid added.
As per The Guardian, McCawley added that the claims of sexual harassment were dismissed “not because the defendants did nothing wrong but because the court determined Blake Lively was an independent contractor, not an employee”.
The case first came to public light in December 2024, when Lively accused Baldoni of sexual harassment during the production of It Ends With Us. Lively alleged that after passing inappropriate remarks on the actress during the production of the film, Baldoni and his team orchestrated a smear campaign to tarnish her reputation.
However, Baldoni accused Lively of planning and implementing a smear campaign against the director and the production company.
It Ends With Us, based on the novel of the same name by Colleen Hoover, earned USD 350 million globally, emerging as one of the commercially successful films of the year. Lively and Baldoni play a couple in the film.
