Azad Hind Dhaba has a new address in Salt Lake Sector V — Globsyn Crystal, EP and GP block, shop no. 3 and 4 (near IndiSmart Hotel) — where the munch menu is just as wholesome and hearty!

While the usual favourites like Tandoori Prawn and Corn Masala continue to star, there are a few new entries too. From those, we recommend Gosht Hussainy (a thick creamy mutton dish with almond paste) and Lawrence Road de Mutton Tikke, a dish popular all over Punjab. “Lawrence Road is the name of an area in Amritsar, famous for this dish of mutton tikka,” said Rajesh Sharma, owner of the Azad Hind chain of restaurants.
The 78-seater dhaba wears a new look. There are painted cartwheels and terracotta patachitra on the mud walls; terracotta lamps hang from bamboo rafters. “We hired artisans who make pandals and a puppeteer to work on the look,” said Rajesh. Even the stairs to the mezzanine floor have bamboo handrails.
There’s, of course, a counter outside for take-away orders and then there are the rolls! Open between 11am and midnight, a meal for two would cost around Rs 550 (plus taxes).
