Ajay Devgn-R. Madhavan’s Shaitaan trumps Sidharth Malhotra-starrer Yodha in weekend collection

Vikas Bahl's supernatural thriller earned Rs 23.3 crore nett during the weekend, while Sagar Ambre and Pushkar Ojha's hijack thriller minted Rs 16.85 crore

Ajay Devgn, R. Madhavan and Joyotika’s supernatural thriller Shaitaan trumped Sidharth Malhotra-starrer hijack thriller Yodha at the box office despite being in its second week at the theatres with a collection of Rs 23.3 crore nett against the latter’s Rs 16.85 crore, according to entertainment data-tracking platform Scnilk.

Sagar Ambre and Pushkar Ojha's Yodha raked in Rs 4.1 crore nett on its day of release, falling notably short of the first-day earnings of other top-grossing Hindi films of the year like Fighter (Rs 23 crore nett), Shaitaan (Rs 14.75 crore nett) and Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya (Rs 6.7 crore nett). Shaitaan managed to earn Rs 5.75 crore nett on Saturday. The earnings rose to Rs 7 crore nett on Sunday, taking the film’s total three-day collection to Rs 16.85 crore nett.

Bankrolled by Dharma Productions, Yodha was originally slated for release in July 2023, the movie faced several delays before finally hitting theatres this Friday. Alongside Sidharth, the hijack thriller also features Raashii Khanna, Disha Patani, Sunny Hinduja and Ronit Roy.

Meanwhile, after amassing Rs 79.75 crore nett during the first week in theatres, Vikas Bahl's Shaitaan began its second week at the domestic box office with a collection of Rs 5.05 crore nett on Friday. This was followed by an earning of Rs 8.5 crore nett on Saturday and Rs 9.75 crore nett on Sunday. This takes the total 10-day collection of the movie in India to Rs 103.05 crore nett. The supernatural thriller has registered a gross worldwide collection of Rs 133 crore within the first 10 days of its release.

On the other hand, Adah Sharma-starrer Bastar: The Naxal Story, which hit theatres on the same day as Yodha, managed to mint Rs 2.25 crore nett in three days.
